BREWSTER KALEIDOSCOPIC SCREENSAVER - INSTALLATION To install Brewster, just copy the three files BREWSTER.SCR, BREWSTER.DAT, and BREWSTER.HLP into your Windows directory. Any other files such as FILE_ID.DIZ are unnecessary and can be discarded. Now open the Display device on your Control Panel, go to the Screensaver tab, and select Brewster. Click on 'Settings' to configure it, or 'Preview' to see a full-screen view. Screensavers have to be in the Windows or System directory to be recognised by the Windows Display device. If you want, you can test the program in any directory by right- clicking on the BREWSTER.SCR file, and selecting 'Test' or 'Configure'. But although you can also select 'Install' from this menu to run the Display device, you cannot actually install the program if it is not in the Windows or the System directory. Microsoft's bug, not mine! If you put the program in your System directory, when you save data it will create a copy of BREWSTER.DAT in the Windows directory. This is because in networked systems, programs cannot write to the System directory. If you run it from its own directory, it will save the data in that directory rather than in Windows. To un-install the program, just delete the same three files. If you have used the Help file, there will also be a file BREWSTER.GID to delete. Brewster does not write any other files - any patterns you save are stored in the BREWSTER.DAT file. Since screensavers are normally accessed via the control panel, no Start menu entry is created.
